All of our postural and stance dynamics integrate into the manner in which our feet connect with the ground. Analysis of these dynamics can be quite complex (TEKSCAN), however, a basic diagnostic tool could find applications in both therapist feedback and client training in a myriad of fields from Manual and Physical Therapy to Reflex Integration, Pilates, Dance, and Martial Arts. A tool as simple as a device that can quickly and efficiently record left foot/right foot load balance as well as front/back weight for each foot should be adequate. Ideally, such a device would calculate individual percentages of total weight as opposed to actual weight, as the ratios are the relevant data.
WII BALANCE BOARD HACK
The Wii Balance Board (Nintendo) is designed to sense this raw data. However, this data can only be accessed through the Nintendo interface, which is proprietary. By replacing the Internal circuitry on the Balance Board with a Bluetooth interface that can talk to the iPhone, an app can be configured to immediately collect and present this data in a user-friendly format on a handheld device. This has been accomplished in the product described below.
STANCE ANALYSIS TOOL PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This system is a simple and quick stance analysis tool built around an iPhone application. It presents as percentages of the total both the loading in each foot (front/back) and left/right load comparing the sides of the body. The percentages are presented on a basic iPhone or iPad app (requires IOS13). After the Out-Standing board is turned on the app is launched and the client then stands on the board and the values are collected by a single click. These values are retained and an additional set of values can be collected after an activity or therapy for comparison. Having this type of feedback available is extremely helpful to both therapist and client.

Wii Balance Board
Center of Pressure Software
For the client, this feedback on how their body is actually managing its weight as opposed to their experience of their posture is a very powerful tool to aid them in “dialing-in” their stance dynamics. For therapists (as well as for clients) it provides powerful feedback on the efficacy of their therapeutic interventions as well as pointers for where to work. These tools have a long history of use in modalities like Chiropractic and Physical Therapy, but until now have not been available at a price point accessible to most practitioners of Manual Therapy and other therapeutic and training interventions.
The purchase price includes a “free” downloadable app from the iPhone app store ((IOS 13 required)(An Android version is not planned))

SHORT VIDEO OVERVIEW OF OUT-STANDING:
ABOUT THE NAME
On a sphere such as our planet, “UP” and “DOWN” are impossible (these concepts are holdovers from when we thought we lived on a flat earth). Instead, the conceptually correct descriptions are “OUT” and “IN” in which we move in towards the center of the sphere, or out away from that center. There is a post discussing this concept, with attribution to its source, here:
Consequently, the name “Out-Standing,” which is the conceptually more accurate description of the type of analysis this product provides, was chosen, albeit its obscure association to stance and postural analysis.
