The Role of Posture in Movement

This research reveals that movement is an extension of neurological organization based primarily on the head position relative to the body. It validates long-held theories, thereby adding confidence to our understanding that movement is an extension of the mechanism that organizes posture, based principally on the position of the head.

This is something that many Manual and Movement Therapists intuitively understand – that the neuroceptive and proprioceptive feedback loops from the body organize relative to the position of the head, with visual and vestibular information layered on top. It is wonderful to read about some high-quality research validating this intuition.
